  1. To prepare:
    1. Have your Social Security Number Available
    2. The Start and Ending Date for the job(s) you have had within the last year
    3. Put on your patience hat…!
  2. Get in touch with TWC and FILE for Unemployment Insurance.  This step takes approx. 10 to 15 minutes.  During this call you will receive 3 things:
    1. Notification that you have been sent a TWC Information Packet (Should received in 5 to 7 days from your filing call).
    2. They will tell you how much you will be receiving.  Be sure you’re sitting down…
    3. They will let you know the DATE for the when you MUST call Tele-Serv to CLAIM Unemployment Compensation.
  3. A day after FILING call Tele-Serv and establish your Unemployment Insurance Account PIN Number. This step takes approx. 5 minutes.
  4. REGISTER for work with the Texas Unemployment Commission.  This can be done two ways:
    1. Register at either of the two locations listed above.
    2. Register On-Line at www.texasworkforce.org
  5. When your TWC Packet arrives it will contain:
    1. Federal Income Tax Voluntary Withholding Request Form.  There will be two options hold 10% for FICA or Don’t.  You will need to sign and mail this form in as soon as possible cause this could delay delivery of your Workers Compensation.
    2. Tele-Serv Filing Instructions
    3. Statement of Benefits – This is the Regular Unemployment Benefits
    4. Personal Identification Number (PIN) Guidelines
    5. Miscellaneous Information (Phone Numbers, Workforce Offices, etc.)
    6. The Unemployment Insurance Information and Work Search Log, Blue Booklet.
  6. File your Claim with TWC on your specified date (Sun or Mon) using the Tele-Serv Phone Number.  There are about 10 to 15 questions they will ask about the your employment status for the previous two weeks.  The whole process takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Your Unemployment Check should arrive 2 to 4 days after filing your claim.

The previously mentioned sequence is for an individual whom has no special conditions related to their unemployment.  When you get your Unemployment Insurance Information & Work Search Log (The Blue Book) be sure to see if there are any special conditions that might affect you.
